On 21st July 2005 the Strategic Rail Authority (SRA) published their Route Utilisation Strategy for the West Midlands (WMRUS).
Kenilworth is mentioned in section 5.6.2, Stakeholder aspirations for new stations:
“Kenilworth would lie midway between Leamington Spa and Coventry on the largely single-track line. It is an aspiration of Warwickshire County Council. There is very little spare capacity on the route and only long distance trains use it. A case would need to be made for a new station and additional route capacity. Additional train capacity may also be needed. The SRA has not seen a business case and is therefore unable to support the development of Kenilworth Station..”
As a realistic campaign group ASK expect a business case to be needed for the station, and expect the county council draw one up in due course.
In response to the WMRUS consulation draft ASK wrote A Case for Kenilworth Station. This is not meant to be a business case, merely a layman’s appraisal of the evidence in favour of a station in Kenilworth. In addition to this, Warwickshire County Council (WCC) made their own response that covers Kenilworth Station as well as other issues.
